Calculation Methods and Formulas
The BMR is calculated using physical parameters (weight, height, age, and gender). The **Mifflin-St Jeor** equation is the current standard, while the revised **Harris-Benedict** formula is a widely used classic.
1. Mifflin-St Jeor Equation (Metric)
$$ \text{BMR} = 10W + 6.25H - 5A + S $$
Where: $W$ = weight in kg, $H$ = height in cm, $A$ = age in years, and $S$ is a factor: $+5$ for males, $-161$ for females.
2. Revised Harris-Benedict Equation (Metric)
$$ \text{Male BMR} = 66.5 + (13.75 \times W) + (5.003 \times H) - (6.75 \times A) $$
$$ \text{Female BMR} = 655.1 + (9.563 \times W) + (1.850 \times H) - (4.676 \times A) $$
